Hi..
Saw you name as working on the Waggoner Line from PA, OH and St. Louis.
Just checking to see if we belong to the same line.

My g grandmother was Martha "Mattie" Elizabeth WAGGONER WITTER m. David R.
WITTER
lived Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her brother, Soloman WAGGONER lived in St.
Louis from the 1880's to 1920's. Their parents were William WAGGONER and
Malinda SMALL WAGGONER both born in PA and moved to OH, MO, and IA.

I have not been working on this line but would like to share any information
if we do belong to the same WAGGONER line.

Delphine, thanks so much for your note. It sounds likely that we have a
match with Solomon. I have quite a lot of info on Soloman. He was
"President" of the Masonic Home in St Louis. I'm not where my data is
right now but I'll send you what I have on him as soon as I get home. I
will be great if we have the same person because I don't have a lot of
other information on the family.

More to follow.

Delphine, I got your note and sent a quick reply back earlier. I'm home
now and have more info. I sure hope we have a match here as I haven't been
able to find out much more than what I've found already. As you can tell
from my name, this is my Father's line and he is only recently interested
in following it. I think I got him started a bit late!

Starting from Solomon, I have the following:

Solomon Ephriam WAGGONER, b. 8 Mar 1851 in Ohio, d. 15 Mar 1929 in St Louis,
MO, buried 19 Mar 1929 Belle Fontane Cemetery, St Louis, MO. He was
occupied as the President of the Masonic Home, 5351 Delmar(?), St Louis,
MO at his death. I have his Death Certificate and a sheet from the 1920 US
Census.

Solomon married Kate WHITE 3 Apr 1872 in Macon Co, MO. She was born 8 Mar
1851 in England and died 5 Apr 1892 in St Louis, MO. She is also buried
in the Waggoner family plot at Belle Fontane Cemetery, ST Louis, MO.

The only source I have for Solomon's parents is from his death certificate.
I would love to have better info ... anyway ...

From the death certificate Sol's (he went by "Sol") were William WAGGONER,
b. in Ohio and Ellen NELSON, b. in New Jersey. As this info was given by
one of the matrons at the Masonic Home it could easily be incomplete or
incorrect.

I also have a copy of a note I got from Emily Durham
<76137.2353@compuserve.com> about a year ago. She was looking for
relatives of James Lawrence WAGNER/WAGGONER, b. 1847 in Pomeroy, OH. Her
note to me then was:

"Oh my. Do you know who Solomon's siblings were or WHERE he was born? He
is within the right age group to be a brother of James Lawrence
WAGNER/WAGGONER who was b. in Pomeroy OH in 1847, served in the Civil War
in a regiment from Wisconsin, married in Maitland MO, and died in Cloud
County KS.

Jame's parents have proven to be very illusive, but one of my sources
mentions a sibling named Solomon. And he told the 1920 census takers that
the parents were born in Pennsylvania."

Now that we've shaken all this up I think I'll send a note off to Emily and
see if she's still on Compuserve.

So, I hope that fills in a few things. Please send me what you have if you
would? Sure would be great to fill in a few things.

Emily, I hope you're still on Compuserve! I got a note from you last July
and I think I've finally made some good contacts. Attached is a message I
just sent to Delphine Nelso regarding our (hopefully) common WAGGONER line.
It sounds even better that your James Lawrence is also connected.

You can message me here or on CServe at 73047,2624.

Regards,
Bill

Bill, received you information this morning when back at work. Thanks.
I only received email at work.

We do have the same WAGGONER line. My mother, who lives with me, remembers
stopping at the Masonic Home, in about 1924, to visit Sol.

Sol's father William WAGGONER was b. 9 Dec 1818 near Waynesboro, Franklin
Co., PA (this is from his obituary) and d. 4 May 1902, Oakaloosa, Mahaska
Co., Iowa. He is buried at Forest Cemetery, Oakaloosa, Iowa.

William married Malinda SMALL 16 Mar 1843, Chambersburg, PA, b. _______ d.
16 Nov 1874, Oakaloosa, Iowa. She is buried at Forest Cemetery, Oakaloosa,
Iowa.

William married second Ellen MENDEL, 24 Apr 1877, Mahaska Co., Iowa.

Sol had at least 2 brothers maybe 3 though I have not found who the last
brother would be, he also had 2 sisters.

My g grandmother was Martha "Mattie" Elizabeth WAGGONER was b. 16 Feb 1849
possible Harrisburg or Chambersburg, PA and died 12 Dec 1922 Council
Bluffs, Iowa. She is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mattie married David R. Witter, 19 Nov 1868 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, b. 11 Feb
1843 in LaPorte, IN, d. 27 May 1926 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He is buried
at Fairview Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Lazarus S. WAGGONER was b. 13 Jan 1845 in PA, d. 13 Sep 1871, Oskaloosa,
Iowa . He's buried in Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Iowa

Lazarus married Caroline "Carrie" Augusta Hetherington, 13 Sep 1871,
Oskaloosa, Iowa.

David H. WAGGONER was b. 18 Dec 1846, possible Knoxville, TN, d. 21 Apr
1863, Oakaloosa, Iowa. He is also buried at Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa,
Iowa.

Leah C. WAGGONER was b. 20 Apr 1853, possible near Utica, OH. I have no
other information on her but believe she died a infant.

David and Lazarus both served in the Civil War from Iowa.

Hope this will help fill in some gaps.

The only information I have on Sol's family is that he had 2 daughters and 1
son. Martha who m. Louis E. Smith, Zella m. Frank E. Myers and Will.

What relation are you to Sol?

Have a nice day.

Delphine, thanks for the great info! Let me comment now on what you sent
and then I'll fill in more when I get home tonight.

Luckily I can access both mail and my genealogy program from home.

Sol lived there for quite a while. At the time of his death he was
"President" of the home. I understand that to mean he was in charge of it.

Do you know what paper the obit was printed in? I'd love to get a copy.
My own birthday is 9 Dec! Do you know what his middle name was?

On the death certificate for Sol his mother's name is definitely Ellen and
the last name is hard to read. We had it as NELSON but I'll take a closer
look to see if it coud be MENDEL. They would look similar and the person
giving the information was one of the matrons at the home, not a relative.
Where did you find her name?

This is great! Do you have any source info for the above outside of the
obit? I'm definitely going to do some letter writing for birth and death
certificates if they are available.

> The only information I have on Sol's family is that he had 2 daughters and 1

I have more info on these families. I'll gather it and send it along. I'm
pretty sure all these folks are buried in the Waggoner plot. I have a plot
plan that I'd be happy to send you if you would like.

> What relation are you to Sol?

Sol is my GGFather. His son William Cornell is my GFather, his son William
Cornell is my Dad, I am William Cornell and my oldest son is William
Cornell IV. If Sol's father was William Cornell then that makes 6 of us!

> Have a nice day.

It's a great day. Thanks to you.

My Dad's sister Dorothy lives in Minneapolis. Maybe it's the genes?

I'll write more later to fill in on what I know. If there's anything I can
do for you please let me know.

Thanks, Cousin!
